Our Gloucester Characterisation Study was the first of its type to undertake a holistic, detailed analysis of a town of this size and was commissioned to ensure the position of the city’s heritage at the forefront of new regeneration plans.
The analysis incorporated a detailed account of Gloucester’s historical development, a series of easily understood drawings describing the city’s current urban form and a description of development issues and opportunities. It has been used to inform the regeneration strategy for the city, in which we have had a continuing involvement at both city-wide and neighbourhood level. It led to a Heritage Audit for the Gloucester Heritage Urban Regeneration Company, which makes both site-specific and broader recommendations that will enable them to maximize the role of heritage within the regeneration process. For the same URC we also produced a Development Framework for the strategic Greater Blackfriars area, which lies on a newly revitalised link from the docks to the Cathedral.
