Everyman Theatre, Liverpool

We were structural engineers and heritage advisors for Howarth Tompkins Architects’ £13.9m redevelopment, which won the 2014 Stirling Prize.

The Everyman Theatre is a much loved centre for modern, vibrant theatrical productions. Developed piecemeal since its origins as a chapel in 1834, it was increasingly struggling to meet the needs of its audiences and touring performers. The challenge was to upgrade the front and back of house facilities to modern standards, while preserving the uniquely intimate and engaging atmosphere of the auditorium in a totally rebuilt theatre.
