Kettering Market Place

Kettering Market Place

We worked as civil and structural engineers with Savills’ landscape architect team and Form Associates in designing and implementing a public realm scheme that address the shortcomings of this important space.

The Market Place in Kettering dates back to the medieval era and until the late 20th century was the hub of commercial activity in the town.  The space was subsequently pedestrianised and then the weekly market moved to another location near the main retail area.  The Market Place had lost its sense of purpose and the objective of the project was to redefine this for the town as a whole.

The engineering of the £2.1m scheme was complex dealing with the structural design of the amphitheatre, a new retaining wall, the canopy foundations and superstructure and drainage all within an environment congested with existing services.
