City of London Culture Mile

City of London Culture Mile

We assisted in the Culture Mile Look and Feel Strategy, providing movement and heritage advice as part of a multi-disciplinary team on behalf of The City of London Corporation - the governing body of the Square Mile, dedicated to a vibrant and thriving City, supporting a diverse and sustainable London within a globally successful UK. .

Culture Mile is envisaged as a new home for contemporary culture in the City of London, with the Barbican as a key partner. The Culture Mile Look and Feel Strategy was developed by a multi-disciplinary team, led by Fluid, to provide an approach for creating an unrivalled visitor experience.

The strategy sets out opportunities to capitalise on the way this part of London is changing, with actions and recommendations for future public realm works. Key themes explored include public art and place activation, wayfinding, lighting, greening, street surface and street furniture.

Our work combined transport and conservation advice, analysing character and highlighting opportunities for enhancement. We were subsequently appointed to continue these ideas as conservation advisors for the Smithfield Public Realm project and the Barbican Renewal project.
