Euston Arch Lodges
Euston Arch Lodges
We acted as engineers and heritage consultants to advise on the condition of the two Euston Lodges that sit within Euston Square Gardens, London, in response to HS2 proposals to redevelop the area south of the station.
The Grade II listed lodges were completed in 1870 by the London & North Western Railway and are one of only two surviving elements of the formal 1870 layout to Euston Station which, with the Doric Arch, was demolished in 1962. Originally part of an architectural arrival sequence to the earlier Euston Station, the lodges were designed to have an aesthetic function, heralding the entrance to the station.
Following our assessment of the condition of the two lodges, we advised that further surveys (including a digital survey) be undertaken, as well as comprehensive repairs to all three structures in order to minimise short-to-medium term maintenance.
