Selby Conservation Area Appraisals
Selby Conservation Area Appraisals
We produced appraisals for twelve conservation areas for Selby District Council; four in Selby itself, one in Tadcaster and seven for surrounding villages. These appraisals build on the methodology developed for Craven DC, which is recognised as best practice by Historic England in their Advice Note 1 (second edition): Conservation Area Appraisal, Designation and Management (February 2019).
The reports articulated each conservation area’s character and appearance through a combination of concise, jargon-free text and easy-to-use, interactive maps, generated in GIS software which is imported into the council’s own systems. This means that they can be understood and used by both local residents and Development Management staff alike. In Selby, our work is also closely integrated with Historic England’s High Street Heritage Action Zone project.
