3 Cadogan Gate

Originally built as two separate residential properties, these Victorian buildings were later connected and for 30 years used by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) as office premises.

Acting as structural engineers, we helped the Cadogan Estate to refurbished the buildings for use as new offices. Extensive structural engineering works were carried out to increase the internal floor area and improve the accessibility of the building. A new three-metre deep basement was dug out beneath the existing building through deep underpinning of the existing masonry walls. A new reinforced concrete stair and lift core was introduced to improve circulation and existing timber floor structures were removed and new “slimmer” floors installed to create level floors throughout the building. A new mezzanine floor was also constructed within the original large dance hall.
