Cinderford

As lead consultants to the Forest of Dean District Council and the Homes and Communities Agency we produced a Masterplan, Design Code and Area Action Plan for a mixed use urban extension in Cinderford, Gloucestershire.

The Cinderford site is very complex and sensitive, being partly statutory forest, partly a former open cast mine with a large lake. The floodplain, large spoil heaps, mining heritage and presence of protected species make this a hugely challenging and exciting site. Our Masterplan provides the framework for 8ha new employment space, 150 residential units, a further education college and leisure amenities with good walking and cycling links into the Forest of Dean and Cinderford town centre.

The Masterplan and initial development sites have been informed by our detailed engineering study on the extensive mining activity in the area. Following community and stakeholder engagement the Area Action Plan was adopted by the Council in 2012. Our work continued in Cinderford by providing transport and heritage advice to bring two employment sites forward, as well as advising on the spine road design.
