Crossness Pumping Station

Crossness Pumping Station

Crossness pumping station formed part of Sir Joseph Bazalgette’s sewerage system for London, pumping raw sewage from the southern intercepting sewers into the Thames at Abbey Wood.

They became redundant with the construction of a sewage treatment works in the 1950s. An enthusiasts’ group is endeavouring to restore the engines, which remained in place.

We provided structural engineering services and advice in support of the HLF bid for their restoration.
