Elizabeth Line: Brunel’s Bridges

Elizabeth Line: Brunel’s Bridges

The western arm of the Elizabeth Line uses the route of the Great Western Main Line to Maidenhead. On this route are four listed overbridges designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

During the design of the line, we were asked by Crossrail to advise on the impact of overhead electrification on these bridges. Following detailed analysis of their history and structure we were able to recommend a solution for the retention of two bridges. Our proposals were accepted during the passage of the Crossrail Bill through Parliament.
