Guildhall
Guildhall
As the ancient civic centre of the City of London, the Guildhall is an extraordinary complex encompassing listed and unlisted buildings, a scheduled monument and public spaces. At the heart of the site stands the Guildhall itself, one of the largest medieval halls in Europe.
We were approached by the City of London Corporation to prepare a comprehensive Conservation Management Plan for the complex. This was prepared in phases over several years, beginning with the Roman amphitheatre beneath Guildhall Yard and concluding with the post-war buildings designed by Richard Gilbert Scott. Through extensive stakeholder discussion we developed policies for the future care of the site which address issues such as reconciling the requirements of public and corporate events with the care of the historic fabric, and enhancing public access and interpretation.
