Former Post Office and Telephone Exchange, Kingston-upon-Thames

We provided conservation and structural engineering services for this project to convert the former Post Office and Telephone Exchange in Kingston upon Thames to a range of new uses, as a part of St George’s extensive Royal Exchange development.

The Victorian Post Office and the early example of a Telephone Exchange are both listed Grade II. When St George acquired the site the buildings were in a poor condition, empty and had been added to Historic England’s Heritage At Risk Register.

We worked closely with St George and a range of architects throughout the design and planning process, negotiated with the Borough and Historic England and developed the engineering solutions. When complete, the scheme will transform the buildings and the spaces around them, serving as the public heart of the new development and adding to the townscape of Kingston.
