Kingston Leisure Centre
Kingston Leisure Centre
We have been working to support the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames’ ‘Transform Kingston’ plans to revitalise the historic town centre for local residents, businesses, students and visitors.
The first part of this programme was the delivery of a community leisure facility on the site of the Kingfisher Leisure Centre, where we collaborated with Faulkner Browns architects and latterly Roberts Limbrick on a design that is accessible for all residents. The scheme - which received planning approval in May 2022 - comprises new wet and dry facilities, café, community facilities, rooftop flood lit artificial sports pitches, clip ‘n climb climbing wall, squash courts and three pools. The local children’s playground facilities will be enhanced, and a single storey extension provided to the local Museum. Furthermore, the local public spaces near the building and around the Kingston Museum and Library will be greatly improved.
We acted as Heritage consultants for the plans, which were in a prominent position and adjacent to the Grade-II Listed Kingston Public Library, Museum And Art Gallery.
“Our aim is to make sure Kingston offers local people the best possible provision of leisure, sport and physical exercise facilities. As Kingston looks to recover from the impact of the Covid pandemic, it has never been more important to develop the places and spaces that support everyone to be active.” - Cllr Andreas Kirsch, Leader, Kingston Council.
