Kingston Guildhall
Kingston-upon-Thames Guildhall
We were asked by Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames to inform feasibility-stage proposals to redevelop this Council-owned site in Kingston town centre as part of the Council’s ‘Transform Kingston’ programme.
The site, known as the Guildhall Campus, is a civic complex comprising the Grade II listed Kingston Guildhall and its surrounding landscaping, two 1970s-80s office blocks known as Guildhalls 1 and 2, and the Grade I listed Coronation Stone. The site partially lies within the Kingston Old Town Conservation Area, and the Grade I listed Clattern Bridge, which is also a scheduled monument, lies on the site boundary.
Our report provided an assessment of the history and significance of the Guildhall Campus and the buildings and structures therein, alongside a description of the significance of other heritage assets in the vicinity of the site, and provided heritage-related design principles and considerations to inform the subsequent, emerging proposals for the redevelopment of the site.
