Park Royal Public Realm Improvements Study
We supported 5th Studio in developing proposals for public realm improvements at Park Royal on behalf of the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC).
The work focused on near-term improvements while also supporting the longer-term vision for Park Royal including the intensification of existing employment uses, support for creative enterprises and the arrival of HS2 and significant development at nearby Old Oak.
Park Royal is a unique territory for London as a whole. Described as ‘London’s Workshop’, the area is home to thousands of businesses supporting London’s economic health. However, Park Royal’s public realm presents significant challenges with a lack of provision for safe walking and cycling access or amenities to support future growth, diversification, and intensification.
This project establishes a strategy and proposals for public realm improvements in the near term to support Park Royal and the people that work, live, and visit there.
Working with a range of delivery partners, including local businesses, landowners, and its partner boroughs, OPDC are aiming to deliver some initial improvements to provide better public realm environments to support existing and future uses, and establish an improved ‘near term network’ that supports walking and cycling across Park Royal. These proposals integrate with the wider policy and place-making processes being led by the OPDC and partners.
