Whipps Cross Hospital provides a full range of general inpatient, outpatient and day case services, as well as maternity services and a 24-hour A&E and urgent care centre.
Within the Barts Health NHS trust, the hospital has a strong reputation as a centre of excellence for various specialist services, including urology, ENT, audiology, cardiology, colorectal surgery, cancer care and acute stroke care.
In the late 1990s, we oversaw the redevelopment of the hospital in phases. Phase 1 included new wards, theatres, treatment rooms and a hydrotherapy pool. The work has had to be carefully planned to allow the hospital to continue to function fully throughout, and for areas to be released for decommissioning and demolition to facilitate the second phase. Car parking and infrastructure were significant considerations, particularly because of the phasing and operational requirements.
