Rob is a conservation advisor with experience of a wide range of redevelopment and refurbishment projects. He works with clients and design teams to help find the right solutions for listed buildings and other historic sites. His approach to conservation is informed by his broad knowledge of different building types and periods and he has developed conservation plans for important listed sites, from medieval palaces to post-war offices.
Rob’s experience and interests encompass a wide variety of historic buildings and places. He has developed Conservation Plans and other strategic studies for Grade I-listed sites including Highgate Cemetery, the Royal Albert Hall, Hartlebury Castle Worcestershire and St Cuthbert’s Church Darlington.
He has extensive experience in the detailed analysis of complex historic sites, supporting proposals for major upgrades and new uses. Projects of particular relevance include developing new use proposals for the redundant, Grade II* listed Clerkenwell Fire station and a long-running project to restore and upgrade a rare surviving pre-Fire of London group of terrace houses in St Giles’ Circus, London. This involved a close working relationship with the architects, and a careful understanding of their historical development and areas of relative heritage significance to justify a series of successful applications for listed building consent.
Rob contributes to our in-house training programme and prior to joining Alan Baxter he curated exhibitions for Sir John Soane’s Museum and SAVE Britain’s Heritage.
