Brunel University

Brunel University

Established in the 1960s as a new university dedicated to science, engineering and technology, the original campus at Brunel University was masterplanned and primarily designed by Richard Sheppard.

In recent years the University had embarked on an expansion programme so were looking to understand the existing heritage aspects of the campus with regard to both the Grade II listed Brutalist lecture block building and the surrounding buildings. Our Heritage Statement was subsequently prepared in support of an application for listed building consent for repairs to the exterior of the Brunel University Lecture Centre.

The proposals for the Lecture Centre related to an ongoing programme of repairs and maintenance that Brunel University had been carrying out on its concrete building stock. The Lecture Centre is the only listed building on the campus. Following our report, we subsequently represented the London Borough of Hillingdon during consultation on including the University’s buildings on their local list.
