Ealing Town Hall

Ealing Town Hall

We have had a long working relationship the London Borough of Ealing regarding the development of Ealing Town Hall and the surrounding land. This Grade II listed building was originally built in 1888 to accommodate the Borough Engineer offices and Assembly Hall, and extended twice in the early 20th Century. Since the relocation of Council departments in the 1960s to larger office buildings, much of the Town Hall has been left under-used.

We prepared a Heritage Audit for the Town Hall to inform its future use and provide advice on how it could be related to neighbouring development. We produced a number of options for future uses which were tested both for their impact on the heritage and for their cost and economic value.

We then produced a Heritage Gazetteer to aid discussions regarding the partial conversion of the Town Hall to hotel use, which would involve the construction of a new extension to the rear of the existing building. We subsequently provided heritage feedback on the full planning and Listed Building Consent application on behalf of the Council, which helped to ensure that the building’s unique heritage and landmark status within the Borough was protected and enhanced in the course of conversion.
