Hull History Centre

Hull History Centre

We worked with PRS Architects on this new £7.5m archive and history centre, which comprises a shared first floor facility for the City and University of Hull archives, and ground floor facilities including reading rooms, lecture theatres and preservation workshops.

The Centre has an exposed concrete frame with a high quality architectural finish which acts as a heat sink to moderate internal temperatures and assist in achieving the onerous environmental conditions needed for the archive. A covered arcade runs alongside the building.  Developing the form of the arcade canopy to integrate the shape of the curved glulam beams, ETFE roof panels and curved glazed façade was a key element of the design and now provides an impressive visual feature for the building.  The building has achieved a BREEAM “Very Good” rating.
