Local Authority Guidance on basement design
Our particular expertise on the engineering of basements in London led to The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster City Council to commission us to write Guidance to underpin their Basement SPDs.
The Guidance clearly sets out the engineering issues and factors that need to be understood and considered by all interested parties when a basement is proposed for construction in residential areas of the Borough. Our work helped to formulate their residential basement planning policies and establish the technical issues that need to be considered in future developments.
Issues covered in the report include:
the importance of the selection of an appropriate team to deal with technically demanding construction
informing adjoining owners and the public as to what the possible implications of such development might be
guidance on the procedures that the client wishing to construct the basement should follow as good or best practice
sustainability considerations and energy use
