We have been involved in the transformation of Birmingham’s historic business district for many years. At St Chad’s Circus we redesigned a section of the ‘concrete collar’ ring road to create an urban boulevard and re-establish an important link to the Jewellery Quarter. Our structural engineers went on to design new buildings on land released for development, including deep basements and integration with the adjacent Snow Hill Station.
The completed development has transformed a large vacant site in central Birmingham into a major mixed-use scheme, with 800,000sqft of offices in a tremendous location on the edge of the main business district, with superb transport links.
Our subsequent Masterplan for the wider Snow Hill District was developed in collaboration with the Colmore Business District, Centro, landowners and stakeholders. It sets out a vision and urban design principles for the area which will see it connected physically and socially with the wider city centre and revitalised through new development, public transport initiatives and improved public realm.
