St. Paul's Cathedral
St. Paul's Cathedral
Wren’s great Baroque Cathedral is a building of international fame and importance. The care of its fabric, and the creation of a suitable setting for it, are matters of constant concern.
As engineers to the Cathedral since 1993, our advice covers the structural aspects of the Cathedral’s conservation, including the £40m project to mark the Cathedral’s 300th anniversary, plus issues relating to Cathedral-owned buildings in the surrounding area.
Our approach to structural defects is founded on rigorous investigation and analysis, which have enabled us to allay many concerns and therefore minimise structural intervention.
We have demonstrated that distortions in the South transept – which had been a cause for concern since the cathedral was built - had stabilized long ago, and worked out why the magnificent cantilevered Dean’s Stairs had cracked, enabling it to be reopened after just a few local repairs.
