MEng MIStructE

Senior Professional

Paul joined us in 2014 and has extensive experience working on the refurbishment and conservation of historic listed buildings.

Paul has worked within the Parliamentary Estate team for seven years and during this time has contributed to a large number of projects on the estate. These projects have ranged from leading the design of major refurbishments such as 1 Canon Row to reviewing the impact of local scaffold designs on the existing buildings.

With all of his projects, he utilises a deep understanding of the nature of the historic fabric in order to guide the proposals and develop sensitive and appropriate interventions into the structure where these are required.

Paul led our input on the appraisal and repairs works to the New Palace Yard Underground car park. Here, his expertise in historic concrete structures has enabled a carefully targeted series of repair proposals to be developed. As part of the restoration and renewal programme Paul also undertook a detailed desktop study of the reinforced concrete structure to the House of Commons.

Elsewhere, Paul’s engineering work is equally wide ranging and includes work on notable structures such as Buckingham Palace through to ecclesiastical buildings, Georgian terraces, and timber-framed cottages dating from the early 14th century.

Having worked on such a variety of projects, Paul has a detailed knowledge of a diverse range of historic materials and how historic structures were built at the time. This has been invaluable in his conservation efforts to restore buildings. None more so than his work on two derelict Georgian properties in Hackney. Another engineer recommended the buildings were unsafe and needed to be demolished. Paul worked very hard to prove otherwise and save as much of the fabric.
