Rory is a chartered engineer with extensive civil and structural engineering experience, ranging from major refurbishments of existing buildings to sensitive repairs of historic timber structures, demonstrating his versatility across both civil and structural disciplines.
A significant portion of Rory’s work involves historic and listed buildings, where he has developed considerable expertise in sensitive interventions. He has led structural engineering work on numerous prestigious country estates, including Grade I and Grade II* listed properties across England. Notable projects include Tottenham House, a previously derelict Grade I country home where he has been providing design and advice on major refurbishment works including a new basement and pool complex. At Wardington Manor in Oxfordshire, he served as Project Engineer for the refurbishment of the Grade II* listed main house and its Grade II stable block, successfully bringing both structures back to life for high-end residential use. At Conholt Park in Hampshire, he led the structural design for the stable block redevelopment.
Rory has also established himself as a specialist on historic transport infrastructure, demonstrating significant experience with Network Rail projects. He has worked on several major stations including St Pancras, where he supported HS1 and Eurostar’s capacity upgrade investigations for the
Grade I listed station. At Paddington Station, he led the structural design of proposed upgrades to the Grade I listed Macmillan House, whilst also having worked on Liverpool Street Station and Fenchurch Street Station redevelopments. He is also responsible for managing our rail sector health and safety policies and undertaking the firm’s annual RISQS audit.
Rory has provided structural engineering advice and support to the Lanesborough Hotel, investigating the existing structure and developing sensitive repairs for the historic fabric, giving him deep understanding of complex hospitality buildings.
