Senior Associate

John has solved some of the most complex structural engineering problems the Practice has encountered. His experience ranges from major new constructions to careful repairs of historic structures, appraisals and designs. He acts as consultant to the design groups within the firm, and externally as an expert witness on complex problems. He also contributes significantly to the Practice’s training programme and its technical knowledge.

John has served on working parties for UK technical standards and guidance and currently contributes to updating of European Standards.

Ian’s expertise stretches across many types of work, including large projects for commercial, education, residential, public and hotel buildings. He has worked on several technically complex projects, including deep basements under existing buildings and work for archives and galleries. His projects include a great range of new build and refurbishment projects alike.

Within the office Ian is responsible for our Quality Management System. This ensures consistent, high quality design, through a critical peer review of the design principles and the wider rationale behind each project, followed by detailed independent checking of the firm’s output. Ian is also responsible for our Environmental, Health & Safety and BIM management systems.

Senior Associate

Trenton leads the transport and movement engineering team within our Urbanism group. With a background in civil engineering and integrated land use and transport planning, he has significant experience dealing with the movement issues that shape the places and streets we live in.

Trenton works on transport strategies for urban regeneration schemes, masterplans and neighbourhood plans, he designs public realm, streetscape and interchange improvements, and prepares detailed transport assessments and travel plans for new developments. Trenton often helps facilitate community planning events, guiding stakeholder and community groups to explore innovative ways of improving places, streets and spaces.

Tom has extensive experience of complex new build projects on restricted urban sites as well as major alterations to existing and historic buildings. Uses range from residential and office developments to historic visitor attractions.

Tom runs our extensive in-house training programme, acts as mentor for recent graduates as they develop professionally, and sets design challenges based on real life problems for engineering students at City University. He is the firm’s technical focus on reinforced concrete and detailing.

David’s significant experience includes both commercial and institutional projects and has ranged from complex new-build to highly sensitive refurbishments of major historic buildings and national landmarks. He has an in-depth knowledge of a broad sweep of building types, from new and existing office buildings and housing to educational institutions, museums and churches.

He has advised extensively on the impact of major tunnelling works on designated heritage assets.

Within the office, David is the technical focus for all surveys and investigations works and is responsible for coordinating the firms approach to Health and Safety and the CDM regulations.

Adrian Tucker

Adrian has a strong background in healthcare having been senior design engineer for a number of major new build and refurbishment hospital projects. He also works on landmark historic buildings, retail developments and residential projects, including both new construction and conversion from other uses.

Adrian’s responsibilities within the practice include acting as technical focus for demolition techniques with interest in sustainable demolition and he is also point of contact for specialist healthcare structures.

Raihan has extensive experience on a wide range of projects, including both new build and refurbishments. These range from office and retail schemes to leisure and theatre projects, as well as residential developments and educational buildings. He has worked at all stages from project conception through technical analysis to detailed design, and beyond to site work during construction. Raihan has a particular professional interest in loadings and building services strategies and also in the investigation and appraisal of steel decay.

Olivier has extensive experience of major alterations to existing and historic buildings, along with complex new build projects on restricted sites. His work ranges from regional and national centres for education, culture and the arts, to new homes for private clients in challenging locations.

Olivier is the technical focus at ABA for sustainable design, collating information and experience from around the firm and developing ways for assessing and improving the company’s approach to sustainability.

Luca has worked on a wide variety of building types and sizes, for both the public and private sectors. At one end of the scale these include major new residential developments, the design of significant alterations to post-war office buildings, and urban regeneration projects; at the other sensitive changes to Georgian and Victorian terraced houses. Most recently he has been responsible for the adaptation of redundant twentieth-century industrial premises for housing and leisure use. He has worked on geotechnical engineering projects both in the UK and abroad.

Fredrik has wide-ranging experience on all types of project. These include the refurbishment of modern buildings, sensitive repairs to historic structures, new developments, and rail and footbridges.

New-build projects include school buildings, providing classrooms, gallery space and a theatre, and new university facilities in sensitive historic locations. His work on existing buildings includes significant alterations to theatres, former industrial premises and landmark listed buildings.

Fredrik is a mentor at University College London (UCL) for final year students.

Rory has worked on a wide range of projects, from the complex refurbishment of historic buildings to more modern large scale building and infrastructure projects. These include the appraisal, repair and alteration of numerous listed buildings, several at Grade I, amongst them churches, museums, galleries and archives, as well as internationally famous landmark buildings. He has also worked on alterations to listed private residences and the conversion of historic structures into high end commercial space. As well as working on historic structures, Rory has undertaken appraisals and the design of remedial works to existing modern structures as well as projects to improve the UK’s rail network.

Rory is a member of the Institute of Structural Engineers and assists younger engineers in the firm through our training programme. He also acts as our technical focus for cast iron, wrought iron and early steel and assists with our external relations.

Senior Associate

Alice is a full member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation and the Royal Town Planning Institute, reflecting her dual experience as both a Heritage Consultant and a Chartered Town Planner. Alice also originally trained as an archaeologist.

She has a particular interest in twentieth-century architecture although has worked with listed buildings spanning from the fourteenth to twenty-first centuries. She has advised local authorities, heritage bodies and private clients to understand the significance of their buildings and how to work with the historic environment to create sensitive, heritage-led design.

Associate

Robert is a conservation advisor with experience of a wide range of redevelopment and refurbishment projects. He works with clients and design teams to help find the right solutions for listed buildings and other historic sites. His approach to conservation is informed by his broad knowledge of different building types and periods. Robert has developed conservation plans for important listed sites, from medieval palaces to post-war offices.

Robert contributes to our in-house training programme. He previously curated exhibitions for Sir John Soane’s Museum and SAVE Britain’s Heritage.

Tom has worked on a range of structural engineering projects of various building types, with a particular focus on the assessment and refurbishment of historic buildings. As a result, he has developed an in-depth understanding of historic structures and materials, as well as an appreciation for the sensitivities that these projects bring.

Tom serves as the in-house technical focus for alterations to existing buildings, collating and distributing information to others within the firm.

André has a professional and educational background in civil and structural engineering with a focus on historic building conservation.

At Alan Baxter he has worked on a broad spectrum of structural engineering projects ranging from small prefabricated pop-up structures and private residential basement schemes to sensitive heritage renovation works on landmark buildings and major infrastructure projects of national and international importance.

Prior to joining the firm André has worked on a variety of new build and conservation projects with engineering firms in Germany and Canada.

Fraser has worked on a range of structural and civil engineering projects, with a particular involvement in the rail sector and listed buildings.

Fraser was the project engineer for a refurbishment of a Grade II* listed manor house at Southall for the London Borough of Ealing.

He was also the project engineer for a visitor enhancement project at Stonehenge within the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

He also designed structural alterations and repairs to St Katharine’s Church near Regents Park, where the spires have been damaged as a result of corroded ironwork.

Fraser is also responsible for managing Alan Baxter’s rail sector health and safety policies and undertaking the firm’s annual Achilles RISQS audit.

Hannah’s varied experience at ABA, working on new build projects and existing buildings, has led to a comprehensive understanding of a wide range of forms and ages of construction and construction materials.

Hannah has worked on the repair and refurbishment of many listed buildings. She has a rigorous appreciation of the engineering and conservation complexities associated with these projects and the sensitivity needed to enhance and reconfigure buildings to meet modern day requirements, whilst respecting their historic significance. Prior to joining the firm, Hannah worked for a major contractor.

With a particular focus on sustainable drainage, highways design and railway interfaces, David plays a leading role in the firm’s wide range of civil engineering and infrastructure projects. He has extensive experience in producing flood risk assessments, sustainable drainage strategies and levels strategies for developments on both brownfield and greenfield sites.

David is involved with most of the firm’s projects as the technical focus on drainage and flood risk.
