MEng MIStructE CEng

Senior Associate

Tom joined us in 2012 and as a chartered engineer has spent many years working on historic and listed buildings.

Tom’s work allowed him to develop in-depth understanding of historic structures and materials, as well as an appreciation for the sensitive approach that these buildings demand.

Tom has worked on the Parliamentary Estate since joining the firm - delivering projects on the Palace of Westminster as well as the Northern and Southern Estates. He has had a long personal involvement on the phased conservation of Westminster Hall, which has included the cleaning and repair of the stone elevations and the magnificent 14th century timber hammerbeam roof which won a Wood Award in 2023. He is currently supporting the final phase of work there - involving the design of a new lighting scheme.

He is also currently leading the firm’s work advising on structural issues at Portcullis House and he is overseeing our input on the refurbishment of buildings on Canon Row and Parliament Street.

Elsewhere, he has overseen the reordering of the crypt of at the Grade I listed St Marylebone Church in London and has recently delivered a similarly transformative church project at St John’s Waterloo (Grade II listed).

Away from Westminster, he has been involved on many other masterplans and refurbishments to major historic estates, including the award-winning refurbishment of the Royal Academy of Arts, where his input continues with a major refurbishment of the historic RA Schools.

Tom’s other recent and ongoing work includes advice to Imperial College on their historic South Kensington estate, Goldsmiths campus in south London and an exemplar conservation project in Hong Kong.
