Tom joined us in 2012 and as a chartered engineer has spent many years working on historic and listed buildings.
Tom’s work allowed him to develop in-depth understanding of historic structures and materials, as well as an appreciation for the sensitive approach that these buildings demand.
Tom has worked on the Parliamentary Estate since joining the firm - delivering projects on the Palace of Westminster as well as the Northern and Southern Estates. He has had a long personal involvement on the phased conservation of Westminster Hall, which has included the cleaning and repair of the stone elevations and the magnificent 14th century timber hammerbeam roof and the design of a new lighting scheme. The design was one of 26 projects across Europe to win the prestigious Europa Nostra Award for conservation as well as a Wood Award.
Elsewhere, he has overseen the firm’s work advising on structural issues at Portcullis House; the refurbishment of buildings on Canon Row and Parliament Street; the reordering of the crypt of at the Grade I listed St Marylebone Church in London (which was awarded ‘Church of the Year’ by the National Churches Trust); and the transformative church project at St John’s Waterloo (Grade II listed), which won a RIBA London Award and the President’s Medal by the National Churches Trust.
He has also been involved on many other masterplans and refurbishments to major historic estates, including the award-winning refurbishment of the Royal Academy of Arts, where his input on the initial £36m project continued through to the refurbishment of The Julia and Hans Rausing Campus, which involved the refurbishment, reorganisation and improvement of the RA school’s campus.
