The Savoy

The Savoy

Our work at The Savoy has involved both conservation and engineering advice over a number of years. The hotel, first built in 1889, is Grade II listed and lies within the Savoy Conservation Area in Westminster. It represents the opulence of the burgeoning hotel industry in London at the end of the nineteenth century and its long history of alterations since its initial construction demonstrates the hotel’s lasting objective of providing guests with luxury of the highest standard.

For our initial conservation work we supported two listed building consent applications to co-ordinate a refurbishment of some of the guestrooms and public areas. This involved installing secondary glazing in its first-floor restaurant, function room and nearly fifty of its hotel rooms. These rooms suffered from extremes of temperature in winter and summer, and noise pollution.

The next phases involved major structural interventions including a number of extensions and a replacement of the services infrastructure.
